For me, I would love to build rapport with the tutee. I would understand his/her struggles from their perspectives as well as their parents. From there i can discuss what are their expectations out of the tuition to understand more about them.

I do past year papers of the students level for myself to understand if I am competent. Meanwhile, I also constantly as what are the things the teacher teach so as to maintain consistency
