Rapport Building
At the start of a tutor assignment, I would speak with my student to ask about which areas within the subject/(s) he/she needs help in. From there, I would do up a study schedule to ensure that these areas are covered, also, to monitor my student's progress as the lessons go by. I would also indicate to their parent/guardian on what was discussed after every lesson and pass them the study plan so that they could follow up with my lessons' content and provide feedback.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I would go online and search up the relevant sources to familiarize myself with the current curriculum. Also, I look through academic books and assessment worksheets at stores to give myself an idea on how I can formulate my own assessment worksheets that are relevant to today's curriculum. I would also help purchase books/worksheets for my students if they express an interest in getting them or to provide them with extra practice from what they already have at school.
As a Good Tutor
I believe good communication and interpersonal skills are necessary for a tutor. A good tutor would be one who is able to converse and understand worries and concerns of their students when it comes to academics. Also, good listening skills and the ability to pinpoint problem areas that their students face within a subject is also crucial towards improving a student's performance. Furthermore, I think a pleasant and personable disposition would make one seem more approachable and possibly increase the likelihood of students paying better attention and liking the subject taught. These are all qualities of a good tutor which I believe I possess and will be beneficial for the academic performance of my students.
