Keeping Up with Curriculum
I've only recently left the schooling system so I'm still fairly up to date with the curriculum. Besides that, I have juniors in Raffles Institution that I can acquire notes from so as to revise my knowledge of the subjects and keep up with any changes to the syllabus since I last studied it.
As a Good Tutor
To not just teach how to pass the next exam, but to establish a good foundation for the subject such that the student will be able to excel at the subject on his own, based on true understanding and not just exam tricks or formulas or whatever. I think a tutor has really succeeded when the student no longer needs him anymore but is able to tackle any new topic that comes along on his own based on his good grasp of the fundamentals of the subject.
