Tutored 2 cousins for 2 years in preparation for their PSLE and O levels Maths respectively.
I have a vast amount of patience as I have understood from the previous students I tutored that everyone le
I am able to start any time from 16/1/18 and can commit to 2019
Rapport Building
I will usually provide students with a detailed self-introduction of myself and would exchange 1 most embarrassing moment so as to let my student know that I am not just a tutor, but also her/his friend. I would ask and go at a pace that my student is most comfortable at rather than teaching at my own pace. I would provide inspirations and creative ways including mnemonics and self-made tests(which are super short and tests on questions which the topic the student is weak at). I would also provide my own personal experiences on how I faced the problems so as to engage my student but yet allowing them to choose for themselves which method they want to use.
For the parents, I would provide them with the progress of the tuition of they need, let them know which topics the kid is weak in etc.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I have my cousins who are still going through PSLE and O levels hence I can borrow their Maths textbooks to read since all schools share the same Maths textbook.
As schools may teach on the syllabus in different order, I will ask for the topics to teach and borrow some of the resources from my student and return the next lesson after reading through everything.
As a Good Tutor
I feel a good tutor needs to be friendly, patient, approachable and as fun as possible.
However, I feel the most important aspect is to understand the need for students to understand why certain methods are used instead of just superficially knowing when to use certain methods.
