I believe in creating a focused but comfortable environment with my students, where the student comfortable with being forthcoming about his/her questions and doubts, and where the student is comfortable with expressing his/her difficulties in school and with the subject. Frank communication is what I believe to be key for improvement and I make myself available beyond lesson hours as well to facilitate such communication.
Beyond that, I prefer adopting a more holistic approach as a tutor, understanding that a tutor's role should go beyond improvement in the subject itself, but also can serve as a guide as to how to navigate school and other areas of the student's life.
As for parents, I understand the concerns of a parent ultimately might differ from their child and it is the tutor's role to meet both the parent and student's concerns in a satisfactory and comprehensive way.
