The first lesson is a free trial lesson as I recognise that strong tutor-tutee relationships require good fit and mutual trust. Studying should be fun and easy, since its a huge part of our lives!

I strongly believe that good grades are achieved with curated study methods, and everyone can achieve them! I hope to build a strong bond with your kid, inspire and encourage him or her that nothing is impossible - through analysing their weak areas, using my experiences to curate targetted approaches to those areas, and bring up their grades strategically.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
Upon knowing what subject and level I am supposed to tutor, I will download the curriculum syllabus and familarise myself with it by attempting papers and getting answer keys.
As a Good Tutor
I feel that dedication to understand the tutee is very important. I also believe in sticking to a schedule and be on time. I would also be patient with the tutee, and try to nurture an encouraging environment for learning. However, if there is a need to be firm, I would be firm. I would only apply for subjects topics that I feel confident in teaching, so as to be the best tutor to the tutee.

    I have 10 years of teaching in a secondary school as a full time teacher, i left the service to focus on other interests and for personal reasons. I enjoyed teaching tremendously, especially the informal interaction with my ex students.I tutored for two years, the first year being in a friend's tuition centre (2014) , after which I set off on my own as a free lance tutor (2015).
    The subjects I specialize in are biology, chemistry, and combined science (bio/chemistry), and lower secondary school science. I wish I can attach the cards and letters written by my ex students so that the testimonies can speak for the themselves but can't in this space, thus I shall quote my students words of me, which included 'thanks for clear lessons! I finally understand mole concept!'

    I am able to start from 21/2/2016 til 20/12/2016. I would prefer Fridays, and Saturdays. Mondays are ok as well if it's in the afternoon.

    I think trust is important, and I am generally opened to giving my cellphone numbers to parents should they require it. I am professional in my conduct and I take pride in giving students quality lessons which i believe will come through quite clearly during lessons. I am open in my communication with parents , and do not hesitate to give them my feedback about the students' progress and areas in need of improvement.

    I have current pool of friends who are still teaching and whom i keep in contact with. I also have a currrent pool of students, both lower and upper secondary students, thus I am well aware of the trends and the updates in syllabuses
    As a Good Tutor
    My students show improvement in their grades most of the time. I don't work against the flow of the teachers in school, rather i complement what the teachers cannot do in a typical classroom, which is to troubleshoot the areas of weaknesses of the students, be it fundamental flaw in understanding of basic concepts, or that the student needs more practice in a specific area of the subject.
    My basic expectation of myself as a tutor is that my student shows improvement in their grades.

    Besides teaching students, I would have small talks about their lives and I would also check on their well being besides their studies as a friend. Apart from teaching students, I would have occasional conversations with their parents on the progress of their child and ensure that they are fully aware of what is being taught to their child.
    Keeping Up with Curriculum
    I would buy the assessment books from popular especially those MOE certified ones. I would ensure that I am well prepared with the necessary notes and extra practices needed for each lesson. I would also briefly go through each topic before giving practices to ensure that the student is well aware of the topic before drilling them in the respective topics. I have just graduated from Junior College in 2016 and am thus fully aware and familiar with the teaching method and learning style of students these days and what is required of them. I am also hence familiar with the syllabus and the specific approach to each particular subject.
    As a Good Tutor
    I believe that a good tutor should be patient, have love for children, love for the subject, be organised and to be willing to reflect. Good tutors should always be commit to our calling and to care to connect. We should always be patient in the way we approach children at tender ages and while showing love and passion in the subjects we teach, we can also bring out the love and joy in our students while they study the subjects.
