I will be able to commit up to 6 hours a week for tutoring. I am currently waiting to go to graduate school in the U.S. so I will be able to continue my tutoring gigs until end 2021.
Rapport Building
I really enjoyed tutoring during my time at college. It made the learning process a lot more enriching, and the prospect of being able to help my peers was in itself a reward. During this time I have decided to delay my choice to go to graduate school in order to spend more time with my family and look after them during this period. As such, I figured that becoming a tutor would be the best usage of my skills. I think that as of now I am best suited to teach IBDP courses. However, I have a younger brother who currently attends NUS High. In the process of tutoring him for the Olympiad, I have a decent understanding of the local curriculum and will be able to draw on this expertise using his existing test banks.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
My younger brother definitely enables me to keep up with the curriculum in Singapore. Although NUS High's curriculum is supposedly different from most local schools, I do believe that as one of the best math and science schools, preparing for their content and questions will enable all children (across all boards) to do well.
As a Good Tutor
I consider myself a patient and supportive person. I personally believe that tutoring is not about showing off your knowledge but instead, being a mentor to the student. I am a strong advocate of teaching kids how to think which is why I believe that my methods would enable students to improve in their studies holistically, rather than simply on a grade point average.
