Commitment / Other Details
I am able to start immediately. Any unforeseen circumstances will be informed as soon as possible.
Rapport Building
I spend the first lesson just getting to know the student and his/her family (which includes the environment of the home, the learning room, the resources that the child has to work with, as well as the personality of the child as a student). I will also get to know the parents and their expectations for the child, so that I could tailor lessons to fit their needs as well as the child's abilities.
I also make it an attempt to make tuition sessions a more relaxed and fun studying time for the student, and usually if they have homework that is relevant to the subjects I will tutor, I will try to help them with those work, before setting any extra assignments of my own.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
As a Good Tutor
I have been awarded "Best Writing Coach" in NTU, based on the overall rating by the undergraduates and graduates who come seeking for help in writing assignments and communication modules. Among the things that were commented were my friendliness, insightful feedback, detailed explanation and one-to-one guided help in assignments. I am patient with the students, and realise that every child is different in their ways of studying and coping with difficulties in learning. Therefore I will try my best to accommodate to each child's unique ways after building rapport with them.
I attempt to make the students, above all else, enjoy learning new things every day, just like I did when I was a student. This is important, because only then will they be more willing to work hard and do well in exams, and reap the rewards of their hard work; rather than stressing out for the exams without learning or liking what they are doing, and not being satisfied with their grades. In every step of the way, I will teach them not just the subjects that they are grappling with, but also with being more mature students and developing learners.
