Rapport Building
I am an open and friendly person and I build good relationships with children. Having much experience with younger siblings and family members, I am constantly surrounded by younger children and know that I can communicate well with them. I find it helpful to instil a sense of trust and openness so that they will always feel comfortable enough to ask questions or to express when they are unclear about a topic. I think it is also important to build a good relationship with the student so they will not feel like tuition is a constant chore and more of an opportunity to learn. Mutual respect is also crucial, as I know that many kids prefer to listen to adults whom they enjoy and feel relaxed being around, yet at the same time they should also put in the effort on their end to complete homework assignments.
I would always be open to constructive feedback or suggestions from the parents, since they know their children better than anyone.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
As a Good Tutor
I feel that a good tutor should be dedicated, caring and just as interested and invested in the student's academic success as their parents and the students themselves. I will be eager to listen to any queries from the student and not make them feel that it is wrong to not know something and ask questions about it. As a good tutor, it is also important to be friendly so that the student will trust in me, yet firm so that they will take tuition classes seriously and feel the need to listen attentively during class and to complete the given tasks. I will also try my best to be as clear and succinct and possible, and try to find different and creative ways to explain concepts to a student should he/she not understand. It is also crucial to stay well-read about the syllabus and be well aware of which topics are/are not tested in the student's upcoming tests/exams.
