      Although I need to be firm with my students, I also need to be friendly and approachable to them so that they will trust and respect me when I tutor them. Learning more about them will let me adapt my teaching to their learning needs and styles.

      Regular feedback with parents is very important. Being able to speak with parents about their child's progress enables the parents to understand how the child is progressing and gives both the parents and me the opportunity to reflect upon the child's learning so that any remedial action can be taken if necessary.

      It also builds trust and respect between the parents and me.
      Keeping Up with Curriculum
      I ensure that I am up to date with the current curriculum by staying tuned to curriculum updates by MOE. I do also read up on all MOE news published in the media so I am familiar with what's happening.

      Keeping a current copy of the syllabus and checking for any updates or changes is also important as to revise my teaching materials if necessary.
      As a Good Tutor
      I believe that first impression counts. So, a good tutor should be able to present himself in a professional manner towards the parents and the child. Other than being professional, he must also have a good rapport with the child, being both firm and friendly.

      A good tutor must strive to contribute to the child's success. Every minute spend with the child should be productive and worthwhile with no place for idle time. Always be organised and be prepared to adapt to unforeseen changes in the environment so that the lesson can still carry on with or without minimal disruptions.

      To ensure that every lesson is productive, a good tutor should ALWAYS be prepared for the lesson, bringing in his own material, resources and expertise to cater to the child's learning. Do not only depend on the books and materials provided by the child. This will also enable him to answer the child's queries with confidence in a clear and concise way that the child can understand. And to do this, he has to be very clear about the child's learning needs and style.

      Last but not least, a good tutor always should praise both the results achieved and efforts put in by the child.

                I believe in building a good rapport with students as happy students learn best. In my lessons, I will provide students all the necessary materials/ notes to ensure they are fully equipped to excel at their school/ national assessments. In addition, I also believe in multi-modal experiences and will utilise real-world events, videos and articles in lessons to ensure students broaden their understanding of the world (this is crucial especially for essay-writing).
                Keeping Up with Curriculum
                I have been teaching the O and NA level syllabus for nearly a decade now. When I was with MOE, I was an Oral Examiner for the national exams too. I constantly keep abreast with syllabus changes e.g. O Level syllabus change for 2023 candidates.
                As a Good Tutor
                It is important for students to learn to take charge of their own learning. I will provide students a framework throughwhich they can monitor their own progress and can clearly see where their strengths and weaknesses lie. I will keep a document for parents to be able to track this progress too so we can work together to see the child improve.
