I currently am working part time thus am unavailable during office hours, but I would be happy to keep my Sundays free for the lessons, along with the weekday nights!

I would constantly update the parents on the child's progress and letting them know if additional support outside of tuition is needed. As for the child, I would make sure that the sessions are not just fully on a professional basis in the sense that if the child is comfortable with it, we can get to know each other on a more personal level. I would try to incorporate elements of fun in lessons so as to not make it dry and boring.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I myself have a younger sibling who is Primary 5 this year. Hence, I have not fully lost touch with the current syllabus.
As a Good Tutor
A good tutor should first and foremost, have passion and dedication to want their child to perform to the best of his abilities. Not only should one have patience in scenarios where the child might not understand concepts, but also kindness in these scenarios and not blame the child for not being able to grasp the concepts. Of course, one should have a vast repertoire of knowledge on the subject he/she is coaching too!

    In my experience, I prefer making my own questions to using already existing questions.
    My questions tend to be combination of several concepts.
    I believe linking different concepts helps the students understand faster.

    In addition, creating my own questions enables me to detect the students' weakness and recommend suitable method of studying.
    Indeed, my previous Math student improved her grade from barely-a-pass to becoming the top 5 in her Math class.

      A good tutor will be found when the tutor emphasises the understanding of the material, rather than the application of formulas. Afterall, the application of formulas may work for the current year but as the child progresses, it is fundamental that he understands why and how the formula works

        Keeping Up with Curriculum
        My teaching style depends on the subject.
        1. MATHS (similarly for physics): I would firstly ensure that the fundamentals are solid and that conceptual understanding is strong so that the student can use their skills to adapt to each question. Thereafter, lots of practice would be needed. During or after each question, I would help to review the student's thought process and immediately point out any AFIs, conceptual misunderstandings, common mistakes, misreading the questions, or not knowing how to begin the question

        2. BIOLOGY - The trick to learning biology would be simplify the content and not see it as giant chunks of information. I would help the student to appreciate Biology better (eg. how we can relate concepts to real life) so that the student could rely better on common sense instead of just hard memory. However, we cannot escape the memory work, and I would teach the students how to make memory easier by organising concepts and making their own notes. Practise wise, I would pick out questions that fall into 2 categories - standard, frequently-tested questions, and general knowledge/application questions; and I'd like to use active recall via flashcard applications to enforce the learning

        3. CHEMISTRY - similar to biology; except that especially for H2 A levels, a lot more versatility and adaptability is needed, and thus teaching would be more practice-oriented

        At the end of the day, my teaching style would greatly depend on the ability of the student, as it would help to determine where I should start teaching from (basics, etc) and the goals in mind.

            I try to tailor lessons to the individual student's ability as far as possible. I bring to the table advice from my own teachers which have helped me attain 7 distinctions at the GCE A levels, got me into law school, and eventually earned me a scholarship at NTU. I believe that my years in legal education have trained me to think critically, a skill I hope to pass on to my students. My training in journalism has also taught me felicity and precision in word choice. I mark very meticulously, so students' work will usually come back covered in red, but they should not be disheartened because despite pointing out errors, I dispense praise generously as well. For students learning English as a second language, I do incorporate games such as Taboo into lesson time to help make the language more enjoyable.

            I have not stopped teaching since I left my junior college, and so am in constant contact with the current curriculum.

            Good tutors should be reliable, sensitive, and able to adapt. They should make the subject come alive. They should be neither overly strict nor laissez-faire. They should recognise the occasions where departures from the syllabus are necessary to further develop the student's abilities. They should also be able to spot errors in questions and answer keys.

            I personally love kids! Tutor before a few younger children age 5-8, like to engage them with interesting videos but still teach the relevant content well. I aim to let younger children not only learn well but also see the use of learning the content and find joy in learning. I generally also love young kids and I am patient towards teaching them.
            For older students, as i am still young, it can be easier for us to connect and relate due to the smaller age gap!
