Rapport Building: I am an experienced journalist who regularly appeared on TV(almost daily). A seasoned reporter and sports presenter who was with Mediacorp for over six years. Having honed my professional skills with the help of media veterans communicating with people from different walks of life is part and parcel of my profession. I have a good memory too. I believe both these qualities will help me strike a good understanding with parents which would in turn help me identify the issues students are facing. I will then structure my teaching in a way it helps the students without deviating from their curriculum. Basically the key would be to have an open chat with parents to develop an understanding.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: Before I start classes I would do extensive research on the current curriculum. I would check on the textbooks used today and speak to other MOE teachers and tutors I know. I will use my contacts and experience as a journalist to accomplish this(I have covered MOE stories too). Keeping up with the curriculum is not an overnight affair. It is a learning journey for the tutors as well so I will continue to stay on top of the syllabus to do a good job.

As a Good Tutor: I would try my best to understand the students and motivate them first. I will ensure they believe in themselves. That way students will enjoy the lessons without being overwhelmed by them.
