Available to start tutoring immediately and can commit to providing consistent support until at least June 2025, as I will be starting university next year.
Rapport Building
By creating a safe, judgement-free environment where students are comfortable expressing themselves.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I directly read the syllabus provided by Cambridge. Additionally, I look at the Ten Year Series to look at the common question types.
As a Good Tutor
A strong understanding of the content is a must. Being able to answer questions and relate it with something the student are already familiar with. I believe Patience and Empathy are imperative in letting students grasp difficult concepts at their own pace. Being able to think creatively in explaining concepts is fundamental as well.

      Rapport Building
I believe in interactive learning, and I put in much effort in maintaining a healthy rapport with my students. This has been in my belief system since Day 1 of teaching, hence I have many good and established relationships with my students.
      Keeping Up with Curriculum
I just stepped out of the system so I am well aware of the current curriculu. I was in HQ for 2 years so I am also fully informed of the future Chinese curriculum landscape. As I have many teacher friends in MOE, I will be fully informed of any new movements in the education scene, or the curriculum.
      As a Good Tutor
An aspiring teaching scholar, a fervent Chinese language teacher, an ex-MOE teacher who has served the education sector for the last 8 years. An individual full of ideals, beliefs and dreams, she is now stepping out of the system to show Chinese learners in Singapore the true meaning of learning their Mother Tongue with motivation, passion and pride. Learning Chinese is not supposed to be an irksome chore or daily grind that repulses students learning motivation or interest. It should involve finding fun and meaning in the language that comes naturally for learners. Learners will see that Chinese is relevant and can be a part of their lives. The door of opportunities that the language can bring is infinite. Yes, English might be the primary mean of conversation in our local context, but as long as efforts are made to introduce Chinese to a learner in a new light, one will soon see the beauty and friendliness of the language, and it is no longer a trying relationship, but one that is mutual and inclusive. I truly believe in the importance of creating a sustainable learning environment for the learning of Chinese, that will create a lifelong impact for the learner, beyond just grades and national exams. Once the language becomes living, acing Chinese will no longer be a faraway dream. This is the value I will abide by for my tutoring journey.

Dedicated to helping students succeed by tailoring lessons to their needs. I focus on creating a positive, engaging learning environment, ensuring each student feels supported and motivated to learn.
              Rapport Building
Building rapport with students is essential for effective tutoring, creating a positive and trusting relationship that fosters open communication and a productive learning environment. When students feel comfortable and respected, they are more likely to engage, ask questions, and be open to feedback, all of which contribute to better academic outcomes. A good rapport can make students feel supported, build their confidence, and motivate them to participate actively in lessons.

To build rapport, it’s important to understand each student as an individual. This involves learning about their background, interests, and learning style. By showing interest in the student’s personal life and hobbies, tutors can create a more engaging and personalized learning experience. Active listening is a key component of this process. It involves fully focusing on the student’s words, paraphrasing what they say, and asking clarifying questions. This demonstrates that the tutor is genuinely invested in the student’s success and helps create an open space for communication.

Empathy and patience are also critical in building rapport. Showing empathy allows students to feel understood, especially when they are struggling with certain topics. Patience, on the other hand, helps students feel comfortable to take their time and process new information at their own pace. When tutors are patient and encouraging, students are less likely to feel anxious or discouraged, fostering a positive attitude toward learning.

Consistency and reliability are essential for building trust. When tutors are punctual, prepared, and follow through on commitments, students feel more at ease. This consistency helps students rely on their tutor for support, making it easier for them to focus on learning. Positive reinforcement is another effective strategy. By celebrating achievements, no matter how small, tutors can motivate students to keep working hard. Praising both effort and results helps students feel recognized and boosts their confidence.

Lastly, a positive learning environment plays a significant role in rapport building. Whether in-person or online, ensuring the learning space is comfortable and free from distractions helps students focus and feel at ease. A positive, welcoming atmosphere contributes to a strong connection between the tutor and student, fostering trust and enhancing the learning experience.
              Keeping Up with Curriculum
As a tutor with experience in teaching preschool Chinese and primary school mathematics, keeping up with the curriculum has been essential in providing effective lessons tailored to my students' needs. In my preschool Chinese lessons, I made it a priority to align activities with the curriculum, using interactive methods such as songs, games, and flashcards to engage young learners while ensuring the material stayed relevant to their learning goals. I regularly reviewed the syllabus to track their progress and adjust the pace of lessons, ensuring that the children not only learned but also enjoyed the process.

For primary school mathematics, I focused on developing a solid understanding of foundational concepts, ensuring that students grasped key topics before moving on to more complex ones. I continually reviewed the curriculum guidelines to remain current with the teaching standards, offering targeted support in areas where students needed more practice, such as problem-solving or multiplication. In both subjects, I utilized a combination of teaching resources, practice exercises, and real-world examples to help students see the practical applications of their studies.

By staying up to date with the latest curriculum changes and consistently refining my teaching methods, I was able to provide students with a meaningful learning experience that reinforced their classroom learning while nurturing their curiosity and growth. This experience has helped me develop a deeper understanding of the importance of adapting lessons to meet both curriculum requirements and individual student needs.
              As a Good Tutor
As a tutor, I strive to be not only a guide but also a source of inspiration for my students, encouraging them to believe in their abilities and achieve their full potential. In my experience teaching preschool Chinese and primary school mathematics, I’ve learned that being a good tutor is about more than just delivering content it's about fostering a positive learning environment and building a connection that inspires confidence and curiosity.

For preschool Chinese, I aimed to make learning fun and engaging, knowing that young children learn best through interactive and hands-on methods. By using songs, games, and visual aids, I helped students feel comfortable with the language, and encouraged them to practice without fear of making mistakes. I believe that by creating a relaxed and fun environment, I inspired my students to take risks and embrace learning with enthusiasm. My approach was always patient and supportive, ensuring that they felt confident enough to ask questions and seek help when needed.

When tutoring primary school mathematics, I focused on making sure students had a strong grasp of the foundational concepts, such as addition, subtraction, and multiplication. I realized that many students struggled with math because they lacked confidence in their abilities, so I made it my goal to not just teach them the material but to help them believe in their capacity to succeed. I always celebrated small victories with them, whether it was solving a difficult problem or improving their speed in calculations. This positive reinforcement built their confidence, and many of them began to approach math with a more positive attitude.

As a tutor, I aim to create an environment where students feel they can approach me with any challenges, knowing that I am there to support them every step of the way. I want to be the kind of tutor who makes students feel understood, valued, and capable. I hope that by helping them overcome academic struggles, I can also inspire them to take on new challenges with confidence in all areas of their lives. The ultimate goal is for students to not only succeed in their studies but also to develop a lifelong love for learning.
