Rapport Building
I believe that learning is never a one way street. I make learning interactive by incorporating Kahoot and Story telling in my language classes. For Sci and Math, I ensure students is able to grasp the concepts by making them the ‘teacher’ and explaining concepts back to me. Interactive learning and active thinking helps student be more involved in lessons, helping me understand them better as an individual.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I will keep updated with Assessment and exam dates of students and check in on their class progress in schools.
As a Good Tutor
As a student myself, i understand how important motivation is in ensuring students stay committed. Hence as a tutor, I will let students know their grey areas, but will always encourage them. I am also open to Whatsapp outside class time to help with homework queries

    Commitment / Other Details
Committed to guiding students with patience & clarity. Flexible with schedules, focused on results, and passionate about building confidence & curiosity in every learner.
    Rapport Building
Rapport building is at the heart of my teaching style. From my earliest experiences tutoring students offline to conducting workshops at Vibhaag Foundation and managing immersion programs at MB Learning, I have realized that students learn best when they feel supported, heard, and respected.
My approach begins with creating a safe and welcoming environment. In my offline classes, I encourage students to express doubts freely, assuring them that every question matters. Many students initially hesitate to admit where they struggle, but with consistent encouragement, they begin to open up. This openness lays the foundation for genuine learning.
At Vibhaag Foundation, rapport-building meant connecting with children who had little exposure to structured education. They were quick to lose focus unless the lessons were engaging and relatable. By incorporating stories, real-life examples, and interactive activities, I was able to capture their attention and make them feel included. This taught me that effective rapport depends not just on friendliness but also on creativity in how lessons are delivered.
Through MB Learning’s immersion programs, I also learned how to build rapport in group settings. Students from different backgrounds often had varying comfort levels with participation. By mixing individual attention with group discussions, I created a balance where quieter students felt encouraged to contribute without pressure. Over time, I found that rapport in such programs extends beyond academics—it is about building a sense of community where students support and inspire one another.
Even on platforms like UrbanPro, where interactions are primarily online, rapport plays a central role. I make it a point to understand each student’s motivation—whether it is scoring higher grades, preparing for exams, or simply gaining confidence in a subject. This understanding allows me to design lessons that resonate personally with them.
I believe that good rapport is not built in a single session; it develops through consistency, empathy, and encouragement. Students must feel that their tutor is invested in their growth, not just their grades. By balancing patience with accountability, I ensure my students see me not only as a tutor but also as a mentor who genuinely cares about their progress.
    Keeping Up with Curriculum
One of my strengths as a tutor is the ability to stay aligned with academic curricula while also enriching lessons with real-world context. Over the years, I have taught students across multiple boards such as CBSE, ICSE, IB, and IGCSE, both in India and internationally through MB Learning. Each board has its own emphasis, and I make sure my lesson plans reflect these differences.
For subjects like Business Studies and Economics, keeping up with the curriculum means going beyond textbooks to include current trends and examples. For instance, while teaching concepts like supply and demand or monetary policy, I connect them to recent economic developments, news articles, or case studies. This not only helps students understand theory better but also makes them realize how these concepts apply in real life.
In Mathematics and English, I focus on structured practice that aligns with syllabus requirements. At the same time, I incorporate problem-solving exercises, reading comprehension activities, and writing tasks that prepare students for challenges beyond examinations. This dual focus ensures that while students perform well in assessments, they also develop long-term skills.
MB Learning’s immersion programs also contribute to my ability to keep up with curriculum needs. Working with students who join from different schools, I learned to quickly adapt to varying syllabus expectations and prepare sessions that are relevant to everyone. The experience also made me more resourceful in finding learning materials, exercises, and activities that fit multiple needs simultaneously.
At Vibhaag Foundation, while the teaching was less about formal curriculum and more about awareness, I learned how to break down concepts to the simplest form. For example, teaching hygiene practices to children was essentially teaching “curriculum for life,” something that I now integrate even in academic lessons by emphasizing discipline, responsibility, and application of knowledge.
I regularly update myself with curriculum changes by reviewing prescribed textbooks, board guidelines, and exam papers. I also make sure my teaching is flexible enough to adapt—whether it means focusing more on analytical skills for IB students or emphasizing structured answers for CBSE learners. This adaptability ensures that my students are always well-prepared for their academic requirements while also gaining a deeper appreciation for their subjects.
    As a Good Tutor
I believe a good tutor is not defined solely by subject knowledge but by the ability to make that knowledge accessible, engaging, and transformative for students. My teaching journey across MB Learning, UrbanPro, offline classes, and Vibhaag Foundation has shaped me into a tutor who balances academic excellence with empathy and adaptability.
My primary subjects are Business Studies, Micro and Macro Economics, Mathematics, and English for primary and high school students. In Business Studies and Economics, I focus on making abstract theories relatable by connecting them to case studies, everyday examples, and current events. For Mathematics, I emphasize logical thinking and structured problem-solving, ensuring students build a strong foundation instead of relying only on rote learning. In English, I work on improving comprehension, vocabulary, and expression, helping students not just perform academically but also communicate confidently.
Through Vibhaag Foundation, I learned that being a good tutor also means teaching beyond textbooks. While working with children on hygiene and health awareness, I realized the importance of patience, creativity, and empathy. Many of these children had never been in a formal classroom setting, so I used games, stories, and practical demonstrations to make learning meaningful. These experiences reinforced my belief that good tutoring is about shaping mindsets as much as delivering knowledge.
My offline tutoring and immersion programs through MB Learning taught me the importance of flexibility. Every student has a different pace and learning style, and my responsibility is to adapt accordingly. Some students require step-by-step explanations, while others thrive with independent problem-solving and advanced challenges. Recognizing these differences and adjusting my methods is what makes me effective.
On platforms like UrbanPro, I learned how to use technology effectively for tutoring—using digital tools for interactive lessons, shared resources, and structured assessments. This combination of offline and online teaching has made me versatile and equipped me to reach students wherever they are.
Ultimately, what makes me a good tutor is not just my ability to teach core subjects, but my commitment to my students’ overall growth. I view success not only as better grades but also as students becoming more confident, independent, and curious learners. My aim is to ensure that every student I teach feels supported.

      Commitment / Other Details
I am able to start tutoring immediately, and I am able to tutor for as long as you need. However, I’d love to see my students gain confidence sooner and not feel the need for external tuition anymore.
      Rapport Building
I love adding a sense of humour and comfort to my lessons by using funny/cartoonish analogies to break down complicated concepts for my students to learn. Moreover, I find that this method allows my students to feel more motivated to study chemistry, especially since they will develop a more positive learning attitude, rather than dwelling on their struggles in the subject. To me, showing my students that chemistry is NOT scary, but fun, is really crucial.
      Keeping Up with Curriculum
Every day, I spend my free time reading the syllabus document, followed by attempting and going through recent A Level papers as well as JC promos/prelim papers to familiarise myself with the style and nature of the exam questions. Doing this also helps me to find trends in the type of questions asked, which helps me prepare my students better. I also study the answer keys for these papers rigorously to understand how to allocate marks precisely for students’ responses, as well as the concepts that Cambridge are particular about.
      As a Good Tutor
As a good tutor, having the patience to teach is important. Every student learns differently and some students require more time to understand a certain concept, but this is perfectly fine. A good tutor should cater to the learning speed of the student and design his lesson plan accordingly. However, an even more important trait that a good tutor should have is the ability to make learning enjoyable. While attending tuition does benefit the student, I believe that my students can consistently and independently study and prepare for their final exams only if they are keen to learn in the first place. Hence, I strongly feel that a good tutor should focus on UNDERSTANDING WHY the student is struggling in the school subject, and then take a different approach from what his/her school does in teaching in order to produce a different (better) outcome.

With that being said, I like to listen to my students speak about their struggles in learning new concepts. From this, I can understand the way they analyse and approach problems, which lets me personalise our lessons. I will go through tougher questions with my students to strengthen their weaker concepts, then have them attempt similar questions on their own before I mark and explain them. These questions will either come from past-year A-level papers, JC exam papers or original questions written by myself.

Most of my students are weak in physics, and I tried to make them be able to see the impact and logic behind physical laws and principles. In my opinion, this is the most important factor as physics cannot be learned through pure mugging. This enhance the interest of the students, thus making them more enthusiastic studying the subject. With most students getting distinctions for their O' level and A' level, this further support my case.

For students weak in math, my aim is to make them feel comfortable with math. Many students have the misconception that math is something that they do not need in future or it's a 'dead' subject which don't require understanding, but every mathematical formula has a very 'easy-to-understand' principle behind. However, this is missing out in schools due to the "results in shortest time possible" approach. This has created a situation where many students, except for minority of the cohort do not understand, thus they are unable do the questions confidently.

Non-academic wise, I tend to do 'pep talk' with my students whenever I feel that they are losing sight of their goals and provide a listening ear for problems they face if they appeared to be bothered and they have no one to talk to. Ultimately, a student is still young and may face issues that they cannot resolve/figure out which will affect their focus.

In summary, my teaching goal is to make students learn and understand what they are learning like it is part of everyday life experience. Thus making them appreciate and feel comfortable with the subjects they are learning.

After going through their education, my ex students are still coming to me for advice etc and I have become family friends to quite a number of families due to the change the parents see in their child.
                  Keeping Up with Curriculum
I am constantly in contact with course mates from university who are teaching in various junior colleges and secondary schools. We exchange ideas and discuss about the lacking aspects in education in schools

MOE has provided up-to-date details of syllabus requirement for each subject and each level.
                  As a Good Tutor
It is always my aim to be a mentor and a friend to my student.

First, students are already learning under the stress in classrooms. It is not necessary to subject them to the same kind of stress during tuition. I tend to keep the lesson informal and encourage my students to interrupt and speak their thoughts whenever they deem necessary.

Second, it is important as a mentor that I enforce basic discipline like lecturing my students whenever they misbehave or consistently losing sight of what they need to do during tuition and after tuition.

Third, a tutor should point out that a student should study for the sake of learning what they do not know/are not familiar with instead of the goal of doing well for exams. It is important for them to understand that what they are learning is part of their life, visibly or invisibly and they should not study for the sake of exams which will often result in them forgetting' what they have 'learned'.

Lastly, it is vital that a tutor should be able to suggest about possible future specialization the student can pursue based on their capabilities, after all a tutor has spent more time interacting on a 1-to-1 basis with the student than any school teachers.

"Dominic home tutored my son who has mild/moderate autism and he did a great job in coaching and guiding him in preparing his O Level Exam English. My son scored A2 for his O level exam and part of the credit goes to home tuition"

                  Cheers,
                  Wei Ling

A very positive teacher. My son has been more positive about these 2 subjects ever since he started with Dominic. Very encouraging.

                  Ms Zeenat

Tutor Dominic Sun is a very patient, responsible and a very positive person who always believes his student will do better given time and encouragement. I am very glad to have Dominic tutoring my nephew as my nephew has shown more interest and confidence in subjects he was thought to be weak in after starting tuition about a month ago. My nephew thinks well of his tutor who amazes him with his abilities to teach almost all his school subjects :) Thanks Dominic!
