I feel that a good tutor is committed to understand the needs of the student and will find ways to help them understand the subject. By providing clear explanations using words, diagrams and videos, I can bridge the gap between the known and the unknown.

I also believe that a good tutor can motivate the student to explain ideas in their own words so that they are more engaged in the learning, hence instilling more confidence in the subject.

A good tutor should also allow the student to explore their own interests in the subject, even if it is not in the syllabus. This can give students make meaning of the subject in their own ways. Through the student's interests, the tutor can link the concepts back to the syllabus.

          Hi! I'm an alumnus of Raffles Institution (IP Programme) who joined top Science stream classes in secondary school and JC and scored 90 RP at A Levels.

          Throughout JC, I have tutored 12 students from various schools between Secondary 4 to JC2 in a wide variety of subjects, including Math, Biology, and Chemistry. They have all shown great improvement under my tutelage, jumping multiple grade bands in the span of a few months. One student who scored a D in H2 Chemistry during JC1 sought my help in JC2 and ended up scoring an A at A Levels.

              I believe that tuition is not a miracle, but it can help a child develop some discipline in the process and expose themselves to other learning materials that they may otherwise not see in school. I stress again that parents should set realistic expectations of their children and that they should strive for a balance for the child's learning.                     I believe in constant communication with parents, with a quick check in text or in person conversation at least once a month. As for pupils, I try to be more patient and understanding, to address their doubts and help them understand instead of nagging.
                    Keeping Up with Curriculum
                    I update my tuition materials yearly to keep up with the curriculum. As I was an MOE teacher previously, I am updated on the changes in the curriculum and new materials through my ex-colleagues and other contacts.
                    As a Good Tutor
                    My approach to tutoring is to focus more on understanding the concepts before putting them into practice. I believe that discussion and targeted practice is more effective than drilling.
