As a Good Tutor
I believe a good tutor should be adaptable. Every student has different needs and preferences, some may be more receptive to visual stimulus, audio stimulus or even kinesthetics. Hence, a good tutor should be able to identify what helps each particular student learn most effectively and employ a coherent strategy to teach. This means that the tutor must be flexible and be able to modify his teaching style to suit the student's needs accordingly.

Secondly, a good tutor should be patient with his student. A good tutor must understand his students are not perfect and need time to digest new material. Being patient even in tough situations will allow the tutor to remain in control and his persistent efforts will eventually earn the respect and trust of the student who will then be more receptive to his teaching. Furthermore, I believe a tutor plays a similar role to that of a palette, which is to provide a gamut of options a student can consider to discover what works best for him/her. Sometimes the teaching and learning process is an experimental one, and the tutor must not be narrow-minded but instead explore various alternative studying methods or examination tips which may help the student. The student will then have the freedom to pick and choose what works best and thereby improve in his studies.

Lastly, a good tutor should have good communication skills, as it is the key ingredient which allows him to succeed in his job. Not only does the tutor need to communicate effectively with the student so that the student can absorb new knowledge in a safe environment, the tutor will likely also have to form friendly relationships with the student's parents when discussing the student's progress and ways to help him improve further. Thus good communication skills is necessary for the tutor to address the various concerns the different parties (parents and students) may have so that maximum results can be achieved.
