Commitment / Other Details
Currently an undergraduate in my first year in NUS studying Business Admin. Able to start tuition immediately. Able to commit to as long as the tutee requests.
Rapport Building
I would establish strong communications with the parents from the beginning, ensuring that I am aware of their demands in the tutoring process. I ensure that the parent and student are aware of the agenda of each lesson. I also feel like carrying a positive attitude towards teaching is the most important factor because it determines the mood of the whole tutoring process. This way, I aim to cultivate a long-term relationship with both the parent and the student. Besides that, I would provide both the student and parent an outlet to give their timely feedback towards my tutoring and I would be willing to accept their constructive criticisms to become a better tutor. When the student makes an improvement, I would give small little rewards and set further and bigger goals to increase motivation.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
To keep up with the curriculum of the student, I will map out the syllabus he/she is currently studying and plan each lesson accordingly. If there is a test coming up, I would focus on the topics being tested. If there is a major examination, I would ensure that there is enough time planned out to touch on every topic and the student should receive enough practice before doing the actual paper.
As a Good Tutor
I personally think that a good tutor should always be patient and dedicated. A good tutor shall be patient in sharing their knowledge to the student who might be completely new to this certain concept and needs time to understand or might require several explanations from different angles to finally digest the concept. I think that a good tutor should be dedicated to wanting the student to really improve in terms of grades, always seeking out ways to further stretch the potential of their student. Lastly, a good tutor should also be a good role model for the student to follow. A good tutor should, at the end of the day, be a positive influence to the tutee, in education and in life.
