Upper secondary level - English Geography Social Studies
Commitment / Other Details
I can start asap and am able to commit to tutoring students for a full year or more.
Rapport Building
I am very patient with students who are slow. Although I want to keep a friendly and comfortable atmosphere during lessons, I am also firm and expect any given work to be completed within the assigned time. I give assignments but I keep in mind how busy students are with schoolwork so I make sure the amount given is feasible and not add stress to the student. I generally keep in touch with the parents to update them of their child's behaviour and progress during tuition time. I also update parents of child'e needs (like books etc) via Whatsapp usually if needed. Unless I develop illness overnight, I rarely cancel/postpone tuition. If I need to cancel/postpone, I will inform parents asap.
Keeping Up with Curriculum
I am very familiar with the current syllabus for English, Geography and Social Studies. I also keep in close contact with my ex-colleagues and check with the SEAB website to keep myself updated with any changes to the current syllabus and upcoming new syllabus.
As a Good Tutor
Besides being highly committed, I feel that a good tutor plans the lessons based on the child's abilities and needs. So assessing and understanding the child's abilities and restrictions is important. I believe in progress in incremental steps, no matter how small. However, it is very important that students do their part and not expect miracles within a short time.
