Rapport Building: I try to tailor lessons to the individual student's ability as far as possible. I bring to the table advice from my own teachers which have helped me attain 7 distinctions at the GCE A levels, got me into law school, and eventually earned me a scholarship at NTU. I believe that my years in legal education have trained me to think critically, a skill I hope to pass on to my students. My training in journalism has also taught me felicity and precision in word choice. I mark very meticulously, so students' work will usually come back covered in red, but they should not be disheartened because despite pointing out errors, I dispense praise generously as well. For students learning English as a second language, I do incorporate games such as Taboo into lesson time to help make the language more enjoyable.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: I have not stopped teaching since I left my junior college, and so am in constant contact with the current curriculum.

As a Good Tutor: Good tutors should be reliable, sensitive, and able to adapt. They should make the subject come alive. They should be neither overly strict nor laissez-faire. They should recognise the occasions where departures from the syllabus are necessary to further develop the student's abilities. They should also be able to spot errors in questions and answer keys.

Rapport Building: I personally love kids! Tutor before a few younger children age 5-8, like to engage them with interesting videos but still teach the relevant content well. For older students, as i am still young, it can be easier for us to connect and relate due to the smaller age gap!

For every student I keep a jotter book which journalizes the above mentioned so parents will have a record. For younger students, I would definitely tailor the tuition according to the needs mentioned by the parents.

Students: for younger students I would normally paste stickers for the questions the answered well and write encouraging remarks/ probing questions (for eg: maybe consider xx) for answers which requires improvement. As mentioned, the student can drop me a text anytime, and I will definitely provide support ASAP.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: for accounting/ business related modules, I keep myself relevant by keeping myself updated with the CPA standards. Secondly, since I am still schooling, I can assure the parents/ students that my knowledge & techniques are up to date.

As a Good Tutor: I have 7 years of experience in tutoring. I use interactive teaching methods to capture the interest especially those in primary school level as they have shorter attention span. I have good testimonials from the parents of my students too. I am also familiar with the current syllabus. I use different teaching methods for each subject as different subjects have its own challenges. For Science apart from theories, i will focus on application to what being learnt in textbooks as I believe memorizing theories of science notes complements with the techniques of using the application method to open ended questions in Booklet B as this section of the paper is the weakest part of the paper as they often miss out keywords and points and lose marks. I am committed and will follow my students till the end of PSLE. Practice papers and lesson materials will be provided too. My students have at least 1-2 AL score of improvement.
