Commitment / Other Details: Apart from building good rapport with the student, I believe that scoring in examination is not a matter of learning short-cuts and memorization, but actually really understanding the subject matter. As a Physics graduate and Mathematics minor, I aim to ingrain the right understanding of the subject matter in my students.

In following the curriculum, I have also adopted my own sets of assessment books and guidebooks, from which I will photocopy and provide my students the challenging exercises to work on every lesson.

I will usually arrive 10 minutes early to chat up with the students and parents. During lesson, I devote the full 2 hours to discuss on the subject matter, giving a short break where necessary not counting into the lesson time. Outside lesson, I encourage the student to whatsapp me a photo of a problem whenever he/she encounter one, and I will provide my solution through whatsapp also.

Rapport Building: My teaching style is warm, structured, and empowering. I believe in creating a safe, motivating space where students feel heard and supported. As a former buddy tutor in JC and secondary school, I’ve learned how to build trust quickly and adapt my explanations depending on the student’s comfort level. Whether they’re confident or struggling, I break complex ideas down and check in often.

I also know when to bring the tough love—when deadlines are near or exams are looming, I keep students focused and goal-oriented without burning them out. With bilingual skills from my Translation background in JC, I’m able to explain and reframe difficult science or math terms in both English and Mandarin—especially helpful for students from Chinese-speaking households. Communication is everything, and I make sure no one’s left confused.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: As a recent A-Level graduate, I’m fresh with the latest MOE syllabi and exam formats, especially in Pure Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and Chinese. I keep updated with school paper trends and common weak spots.

I place strong emphasis on building mastery through practice and consistency. I assign homework after every lesson and go through it in detail during our sessions, because that’s when students uncover their blind spots and build confidence. During exam periods, I focus heavily on paper drilling to build speed, familiarity, and strategy.

I also pay attention to the mark schemes, question styles and changes in syllabus wording—especially for science subjects where precision is key. For Chinese, I integrate current affairs and idioms to help students connect with language use beyond the textbook.

As a Good Tutor: A good tutor is more than just a knowledge provider—they’re a mentor, motivator, and study strategist. I focus not only on content mastery but also on helping students develop better learning habits, time management, and resilience.

I believe in clear communication and accountability. I check in on goals regularly, give actionable feedback, and adapt my teaching style depending on what each student needs—whether they’re a visual learner, need more encouragement, or just need someone who gets it.

Having walked the same academic path not long ago, I know the pressure students face—and I tailor my guidance to meet them where they are. I also speak both English and Mandarin fluently, so I can communicate with both students and parents effectively.

At the heart of it, I truly care about every student’s progress. Watching them grow in confidence, score higher, and start to believe in themselves—that’s the real reward.

Commitment / Other Details: I can start as soon as possible and can commit at least for the full period that the student needs. As long as the student wishes to continue under me, I would be able to commit.

Rapport Building: I talk with the students about the current subjects and help them with their homework. I also talk with my tutees some practical applications of the knowledge and some jokes. For the parents, I do update the parents at least once per month or more depending on the availability of the parents.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: The curriculum for O levels, A levels, IGCSE and IB are all found on the websites. I read these syllabus frequently and note any changes.

As a Good Tutor: I felt that being patient and meticulous are qualities that a successful home tutor should have. A successful home tutor should also have the skill to know when a child is struggling and thus know when to help the child.
