I peruse SEAB website regularly to keep up with the latest syllabus and I have the latest exam papers from good schools (sent from ex colleagues and friends of mine). I also visit BBC GCE Bitesize and Cambridge International Examinations to apprise myself of the latest IP and overseas syllaus.

    I usually get to know the students' background and their interests/ hobbies. Then regarding the subject they need help in I would ask them what they find challenging and need more help in. This is to make them feel more comfortable with me first, so that during future lessons they would not hesitate to ask questions. During the lesson itself and teaching, I ensure that they understand everything that is being taught. So even if they do not voice out their doubts, I will highlight certain points to them and ensure they understand before moving on.

    As a good tutor, I think that you do not need to be a professional or get a PHD in your field. But it's about being able to convey concepts well to students in a way that they understand. Each student has a different way of understanding things, so the delivery may change depending on every student. Patience is also key. This patience from tutors does not only reassure the student, but also allows them to be more comfortable when asking questions, without having to feel afraid/ apprehensive.
