Rapport Building: I never thought of tutoring before but when I was younger, I used to help my neighbors in phonics and basic math. But currently, I am only tutoring my cousin's daughters but I update her regularly on their progress and communicate with her for any updates or any items I would need.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: I practice by myself. I read up on the MOE website on the syllabus and I also go through test papers and come up with my own answer sheets so that I can aid the child in understanding either way. I also go through the textbooks that will aid my understanding.

As a Good Tutor: I believe that you need to find the root of the problem. Does the child not understand the subject? Do they have a weak foundation? Is there a misunderstanding in understanding a topic that's stopping the child from doing their best? Finding the root of the problem will help me know where to push the child and help them get better and better at their better topics. A good tutor is patient and understanding.

Rapport Building: I talk to students and parents about exams, strategies, and try to encourage weak students to try their best. Also, I share some life experiences to encourage students to work harder, as well as for parents to think about education pathways and future of the students.

Keeping Up with Curriculum: I need a bit of time to revise the topics as I have been mentoring students for H3 research, and volunteered as a judge for SSEF, focusing on much harder topics involving science and math. Will be looking through MOE syllabus and ten year series to activate the knowledge base again.

As a Good Tutor: Tuition is a lot more than imparting knowledge to students for them to improve. It is also about guiding them to make the best out of their lives for an optimum future. Sometimes if students don't like the subject I encourage them to work through it anyway by thinking about the future they want. I will also inform the parents about aptitude where possible, so that parents can also guide their children to be the best form of themselves. Tuition is an avenue to help students go for the best outcome in their lives.

Based on my teaching experience, primary 3 pupils find it challenging to write a good composition as it is their first time writing a full composition based on 4 pictures. I will scaffold the lessons in such a way where they will be able to generate their own ideas and write a story with proper paragraphing.
Other than that, I will also be teaching them comprehension skills as this is also one of the components in the main paper that pupils find challenging.
Oral speaking skills is also important. I will teach them how to read a text properly and how to go about describing the picture for picture conversation.
